A Grot collar, sometimes called a French collar, is a lightweight slip collar designed to sit high on the neck, just behind the ears. In that position a light hand gives clear, precise communication, so you can guide your dog with far less effort than a flat collar sitting low on the neck. Slip collars work on the same simple principle: they tighten to fit, release when the lead is loose, and slip on and off in a second.
Because they are so light and quick to fit, grot and slip collars are popular with trainers, gundog handlers and working dog owners for training sessions, field work and everyday walks. As with any training tool, take time to condition your dog to the collar and make sure it fits correctly; you should always be able to fit two fingers between the collar and your dog's neck.
